Research: BFI Statistical yearbook

1.The three successful genres a the UK box office was Comedy,
Action and Animation.

2.The three least popular and successful genres at the UK box office was Romance, War and Documentary.

3. The Comedy genre released the most films in 2013-14.

4. 153 Comedy films were made in 2013 - 2014.

5. 33 Animation films were made.

6.  47 Action films were made.

Audiences

1.  15 - 24 years old made up the largest proportion of cinema admissions in the UK. 

2. The Hangover part 3 was the most successful with this age group. 

3. The film, Quartet was most popular with the over 50s and the genre of this film was comedy- drama . 

4. The most popular genres with men is thriller, action and comedy.

5. The most popular genres with women is Romantic- Comedies, Documentary and Animation. 

6.  UK films appealed to all of the groups.

7. Three films that were most popular with the 7 - 14 age group was One Direction:This Is Us, Wreck-It Ralph and Despicable Me 2. This shows that the 7- 14 age group enjoy Animations films the most. 

8. This is because parents would go and watch these films with their children so 

9.  Three films that were most popular with the 25 - 34 age group was Django Unchained, Fast & Furious 6 and Rush.

10. The films that were most popular with the middle class audience, C1 and C2,
was Rush, Captain Phillips, Gravity, Fast & Furious 6 and Despicable Me 2.

11. The audience in London seem to enjoy Action and Science fiction films
 whereas the audience in Scotland has a more varied film genres as the popular films there was Sunshine on Leith, a musical film, Filth, a crime comedy- drama and Star Trek Into Darkness, a science fiction film.
