Sound is anything you hear such as cars beeping, music playing, someone brushing their teeth or an incoming train arriving. It is used to establish the tone of the film and it also gives hints about the plot of the film. It is important because it enables the audience to identify what genre the film is as each genre has a significant sound that it uses.
From watching a title sequence without sound, it was hard to understand what was going on so I wasn't engaged in the film, which doesn't fulfil the purpose of a title sequence, engaging the audience. But when I watched the title sequence with sound, easily I was able to understand the events happening in the film, which captivated my attention.
In horror movies, they usually have a eerie soundtrack which is implying that the film is horror, the audience will automatically know this without watching it. This is because the soundtrack usually starts off very slow then the pace begins to quicken, which adds tension.
