RESEARCH - 2 Film title sequences

Skyfall

The opening of the film starts off with the main character, falling into the sea subsequently after being shot. This not only introduces the audience to the main character, but also introduces us to the genre of the movie by hinting at action. As soon as this happens the soundtrack begins to play, which fits with what is happening on the screen in the title sequence. As the opening continues we are indirectly shown some significant settings and locations from the film, with the continuous reference to how he has just been shot. Throughout the opening we are also made more aware of the action genre through the created imagery of gun fights, wounds and women, which adds a classic ames Bond touch to the opening and prepares the audience for an exciting and action packed film simply through the use of the title sequence. While all of the action is happening title credits are being used and are integrated over the sequence, doing this distracts us from the fact that there are three minutes of credits as the audience are left in awe of the action and for what they are about to watch.

Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump begins with an establishing shot of a feather in the sky which falls down to the ground introduces the audience to the main character as the feather falls onto him. We are not only introduced to the main character but also to a location as the camera pans down from the skyline and to a town. Title credits are again being used and are integrated over the film of the feather falling, one important credit was 'Starring Tom Hanks' as it came up before any of the credits, title, and was in capital letters. This title sequence sets quite a calm tone to the audience as it follows a slow establishing shot opening.
